Youth Arrested With Foreign Pistols, Ammunition

In a targeted operation in Raghunathpur, under Benapole Port police jurisdiction in Jashore, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) seized two foreign-made pistols, six rounds of ammunition, and four magazines. During the operation, a 28-year-old man, Sakib Hasan, was arrested on suspicion of involvement in illegal arms trading.

According to RAB sources, the operation was conducted early on Sunday (11 January) at around 5:00 a.m. by a specialised patrol team from RAB Headquarters, Dhaka, led by Major Nazmul Hossain. The team carried out a search at the residence of Md. Aslam Hossain in the western part of Raghunathpur, where the firearms and related materials were discovered.

Sakib Hasan is reported to be a resident of the house and the son of Md. Aslam Hossain. During preliminary questioning, RAB confirmed that Hasan provided information linking him to illicit arms trading networks. Authorities are investigating whether the seized firearms were intended for local criminal use or trafficking across the nearby border region.

Benapole Port Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Ashraf Hossain stated that the RAB is transferring the arrested individual and the seized weapons to the police station. A formal case under the Arms Act will be filed, and appropriate legal proceedings will follow. RAB further noted that once the handover process is complete, the accused will remain in police custody while the investigation continues.

The operation has prompted law enforcement agencies to intensify surveillance and patrols in the region, aiming to curb the flow of illegal weapons and ensure public safety. Officials have highlighted that the border-adjacent area of Benapole is considered sensitive due to previous incidents involving smuggling and the movement of contraband.
