Authorities in Chirirbandar, Dinajpur, have recovered the bodies of two unidentified young men from the Atrai River, raising concerns among local residents. The grim discovery was made at around 11:00 am today near the Lokkhitola Bridge in Dalla Baniakhari village, within the jurisdiction of Bhiyail Union. Preliminary reports suggest that one of the victims was approximately 24 years old, while the other was around 30. Both were wearing floral-patterned trousers, black shirts, and black jackets.
Local residents reported that the bodies were first spotted floating in the river at approximately 10:30 am by a group of fishermen. Among them, Anarul Islam immediately alerted the Chirirbandar Police Station, prompting authorities to rush to the scene and recover the bodies.
Sub-Inspector S. M. Ahsan Habib of Chirirbandar Police Station confirmed the recovery, stating, “The bodies were in a partially decomposed state. Identification procedures are currently underway. CID officers have been informed, and they will oversee further legal and investigative procedures once they arrive.”
The incident has sparked concern across the local community, given the river’s strong currents and the remote nature of the discovery site. Authorities have urged anyone with information regarding the identities of the victims to come forward, while also warning locals to exercise caution near the riverbank.
