In Bogura’s Gabtali Upazila, a 55-year-old farmer, Abu Bakkar Siddique, was fatally attacked amid a longstanding land dispute, local sources and police confirmed. The incident occurred on Monday, 12 January, around 7:00 pm in the village of Jat Halidabga.
Police and locals reported that a legal case involving neighbours Ershad and Ataur, sons of Azizur Rahman, was underway regarding a disputed plot of land. Abu Bakkar Siddique had been summoned as a witness in the case.
According to reports, tensions escalated around 6:30 pm near Ataur’s residence, sparking a confrontation between the opposing parties. During the clash, attackers targeted Abu Bakkar Siddique with sticks and iron rods, inflicting severe head injuries.
He was immediately rushed to Gabtali Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival.
Gabtali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Anisur Rahman, stated: “The attack on Abu Bakkar Siddique was a deliberate act arising from the land dispute. The victim was beaten to death with sticks and rods. His body has been sent to the Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsy, and authorities are attempting to apprehend the perpetrators.”
