Scout Gillett Unveils New Album ‘Tough Touch’

Missouri-born, Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter Scout Gillett has officially announced the release of her eagerly awaited second studio album, Tough Touch, set for 6 March 2026. Alongside the announcement, she unveiled the album’s lead single, “Too Fast to Last,” accompanied by a self-directed music video, providing listeners with an early glimpse of the record’s emotional and sonic textures. The album will be released through her newly established label, Slouch Records.

Following the critical acclaim of her debut album, No Roof No Floor (2012), Gillett has undergone a period of profound personal and artistic transformation. Over the past decade, she has toured extensively on an international scale, endured two significant failed relationships, survived a near-fatal accident, and relocated from New York to Los Angeles after eight years. Tough Touch channels these formative experiences, offering a compelling blend of raw emotion, distinctive musicality, and Gillett’s commanding vocals.

Reflecting on “Too Fast to Last,” Gillett said, “I wrote this song immediately after completing my first major European tour. It captures the exhilaration of life alongside the tension of personal relationships. While recording with my band in Austin, we even performed it partially during flooding in New Orleans—it was one of the most intimate creative experiences of our careers.”

The album’s initial compositions were crafted on a four-track Tascam Portastudio in Gillett’s former bedroom studio. Moving away from computer-based production, she embraced a more organic, hands-on songwriting process. The final band lineup emerged through collaboration with musicians on her ‘Build-a-Band’ tour, featuring Ted Jamison (bass), Abdon Valdez (drums), and Omar Shyambacher (guitar). Drawing inspiration from artists including Neil Young, PJ Harvey, Hole, and Lucinda Williams, Gillett recorded the album live with producer Stewart Sykes, combining grunge intensity with tender emotional resonance.

Now permanently based in Los Angeles, Gillett is already working on her third album. She views Tough Touch as a reflection of self-awareness, resilience, and independence. “I’ve learned to trust my intuition, embrace freedom, and approach relationships with love and confidence,” she explained.
