Jo Saldana sets a new box office record.

Hollywood star Zoe Saldana has officially become the highest-grossing actress of all time, following the release of her latest blockbuster, Avatar: Fire and Ash. The film has already surpassed $1.23 billion in global box office revenue, cementing her status as a true box office powerhouse.

Saldana is the only actress to have appeared in four of the world’s top-grossing films, each earning more than $2 billion globally. These films include the 2009 sci-fi epic Avatar, its 2022 sequel Avatar: The Way of Water, as well as Marvel’s Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame (2019).

Alongside her work in the Avatar franchise, Saldana is widely recognised for her role as Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the Guardians of the Galaxy series. She also gained critical acclaim for portraying Uhura in the Star Trek trilogy, which collectively grossed over $1 billion worldwide.

According to The Numbers, the total box office revenue of all films featuring Saldana now stands at $15.47 billion, surpassing fellow actors Scarlett Johansson and Samuel L. Jackson to claim the top spot.

Film Title Year Worldwide Box Office ($Billion) Role
Avatar 2009 2.92 Neytiri
Avengers: Infinity War 2018 2.05 Gamora
Avengers: Endgame 2019 2.79 Gamora
Avatar: The Way of Water 2022 2.32 Neytiri
Avatar: Fire and Ash 2025 1.23+ Neytiri

Following this milestone, Saldana shared a heartfelt video on social media, expressing gratitude to her colleagues, directors, and fans. “This achievement is not mine alone,” she said. “It’s the result of incredible films, directors’ trust, and the love of audiences worldwide.” She specifically thanked directors James Cameron, J.J. Abrams, Joe and Anthony Russo, and James Gunn, noting that Cameron had seen in her a potential she sometimes did not recognise herself.

The year 2025 has been particularly remarkable for Saldana. In March, she won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in Emilia Perez, becoming the first Dominican-American actress to receive an Oscar. She also garnered awards from the Cannes Film Festival, Golden Globes, BAFTA, and Critics’ Choice for the same role.

Saldana is set to reprise her iconic role as Neytiri in Avatar 4 (2029) and Avatar 5 (2031), ensuring that her reign at the global box office is far from over.
