A 40-year-old local man, Abdur Rahim Prokash Roikha, was fatally shot by armed Rohingya individuals in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. Rahim, the son of Habibur Rahman, was a resident of Muchhni Noapara.
The tragic incident occurred late on Tuesday night (13 January) in the vicinity of Bikkash More, within the Register Camp area of Muchhni Noapara. Eyewitnesses reported hearing gunfire in the area, raising immediate concerns among local residents.
Police from Teknaf Model Police Station recovered Rahim’s body on Wednesday morning after receiving reports from the community. The authorities completed the initial documentation of the scene and subsequently sent the body to Cox’s Bazar morgue for post-mortem examination.
Rahim’s wife, Chara Khatun, recounted the harrowing events: “Last night, armed Rohingya individuals came to our home and took my husband away. His mobile phone remained switched off all night. I received the dreadful news this morning that his body was found at Bikkash More. I am left alone with our two children and urge the government to ensure justice for my husband’s murder.”
Local resident Nur Hossain Putu expressed growing frustration and fear within the community. “We provided shelter to the Rohingya out of humanitarian concern, but incidents like these make us question our safety. They repeatedly target local residents through killings, abductions, and disappearances. Today’s murder of Abdur Rahim is proof of that. We appeal to the authorities to identify the perpetrators and bring them swiftly to justice,” he said.
OC Saiful Islam of Teknaf Model Police Station confirmed the investigation steps: “The body has been recovered, initial documentation completed, and the remains sent for post-mortem. Following the family’s request, legal proceedings will be initiated promptly in accordance with the law.”
