Security guard killed in robbery attack

Dhaka, 14 January – In a tragic incident early this morning, a security guard, Mr. Md. Ahmed Dewan, aged 60, was fatally stabbed by a group of robbers while on his way from home to work in Keraniganj. The attack took place at around 5:30 a.m. in the Basundhara Balu Maat area, leaving the local community in shock.

Mr. Dewan, a resident of South Pangao, Keraniganj, was employed as a security guard at Hock Dog Year. He was the son of Nasur Uddin Dewan and a father to one son and two daughters.

According to family members, Mr. Dewan left his home as usual in the early hours to report for duty. During his commute, assailants confronted him, attempting a robbery. In the course of the attack, he was stabbed in the abdomen and left critically injured. Immediate action by his family brought him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he was admitted to the emergency department. Despite urgent medical attention, doctors pronounced him dead at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Speaking to the media, Mr. Dewan’s son-in-law, Pintu, said, “He left home this morning for his routine duty. On the way, the robbers stopped him and stabbed him during the robbery. We rushed him to the hospital as quickly as possible, but unfortunately, he did not survive.”

The Dhaka Medical College Hospital Police Camp In-Charge, Md. Faruk, confirmed the death and stated that the deceased’s body has been kept in the hospital morgue. The relevant police station has been informed and an investigation is underway.
