A volatile confrontation erupted in Ullapara, Sirajganj, on Thursday afternoon after female activists from Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami allegedly entered the home of a Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) supporter to solicit votes. The incident, which took place in Tetulia village under the Borohar Union at approximately 3:30 PM, quickly escalated into violence, resulting in the vandalism of vehicles and necessitating an emergency intervention by the police.

The tension began when a group of women representing Jamaat-e-Islami was conducting door-to-door canvassing for the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election. According to local reports, the group entered a household known to be staunchly loyal to the BNP. An argument ensued between the activists and the female residents of the house, which rapidly transformed into a heated public altercation.

As news of the dispute spread, Jamaat-e-Islami male activists reportedly rushed to the scene in a private car and on motorcycles to support their colleagues. However, they were intercepted by BNP supporters. The confrontation turned physical when the Jamaat-bound vehicles were pelted with bricks and stones, leading to the significant destruction of a car and a motorcycle.

Rupu Kar, the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Ullapara Police Station, confirmed the sequence of events. He noted that the initial verbal sparring between the women escalated only after the arrival of male activists from both parties. “Upon receiving information about the clashes and the throwing of projectiles, an Executive Magistrate on election duty and a police detachment were immediately dispatched to the site,” the OC stated.

Security forces managed to separate the opposing groups and brought the situation under control. The authorities held discussions with local leaders from both the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami to prevent further retaliatory attacks. As of Thursday evening, the area remains under heightened surveillance to ensure the safety of residents and the continuation of the electoral process.
