Dhaka, 23 January 2026 – The Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Detective Branch has successfully apprehended Rahim, the alleged gunman responsible for the murder of Md. Azizur Rahman Musabbir, former General Secretary of the Volunteer Party’s Dhaka North unit. Authorities recovered two firearms during the operation.
Rahim was arrested early on Friday morning from Narsingdi district, while another suspect, Md. Billal, had previously been detained and taken into remand for questioning.
The murder occurred on 7 January in the Tejgaon area of Dhaka. On that evening, Musabbir was socialising with friends near the West Tezturi Market, close to Tejgaon Police Station. After the gathering, he set off for home at approximately 8:00 pm. Just ten minutes later, a group of four to five unidentified assailants intercepted him near the Ahsanullah Institute in Tezturi Market and opened fire. Musabbir was struck by multiple bullets and fell to the ground.
Sufian Bepari Masud, who was accompanying Musabbir, attempted to intervene and protect him but was also shot by the assailants. Following the attack, the perpetrators fled the scene. Bystanders immediately transported Musabbir and Masud to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, Musabbir was pronounced dead by the attending physician. Masud was subsequently admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment and is currently receiving care.
In response to the killing, Musabbir’s wife, Suraiya Begum, 42, filed a formal murder complaint at Tejgaon Police Station on the same day, 7 January. Law enforcement authorities have launched a full-scale investigation to identify and apprehend any remaining suspects involved in the attack.
