This time, Mimi Chakraborty faces a face-to-face hearing at the SIR

Following actor Dev, former Trinamool Congress MP Mimi Chakraborty has now been summoned for a Special Inquiry Report (SIR) hearing, a routine procedure aimed at rectifying discrepancies in voter lists or electoral documents.

The notice pertains to inconsistencies identified in Mimi’s voter registration details. As per election regulations, she is required to appear in person to verify and correct her information. The hearing is scheduled to take place at the administrative office in New Market, Kolkata, on 31 January.

This marks the latest instance in what has become a notable trend in Tollywood, where several celebrities have recently received similar SIR notices. Earlier, actors Dev and Soumitrisha Kundu were called for hearings under comparable circumstances. Additionally, actress Manali Dey was summoned after a clerical error was detected in her voter card regarding the spelling of her father’s name. Mimi’s inclusion now adds another high-profile name to the list.

Since resigning from her parliamentary position prior to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Mimi has focused entirely on her acting career. Nonetheless, she has emphasised her commitment to fulfilling civic responsibilities. She confirmed, “I will definitely attend the hearing on the 31st and bring all the necessary documents as instructed.”

Election authorities routinely conduct such hearings ahead of general or by-elections to ensure voter lists are accurate and free from errors or fraudulent entries. This process applies not only to ordinary citizens but also to prominent public figures, reinforcing the integrity of the electoral system.

For context, here are the recent Tollywood SIR hearings:

Celebrity Name Issue in Voter Records Hearing Date Office Location
Dev Name discrepancy Recent past New Market Office
Soumitrisha Kundu Document mismatch Recent past New Market Office
Manali Dey Father’s name misspelt Recent past New Market Office
Mimi Chakraborty Voter information discrepancy 31 January 2026 New Market Office

On the professional front, Mimi continues to thrive in the entertainment industry. Her latest film, Bhanupriya Bhuter Hotel, was released on 23 January, marking her continued presence in Tollywood.

While she remains an active public figure, Mimi has made it clear that she has no intention of returning to politics, having formally stepped down from her MP role in 2024. Her participation in the SIR hearing underscores her adherence to civic duties, even as she concentrates fully on her cinematic career.
