BCB corruption under Papon exceeds 15 years Director

Explosive allegations of corruption have surfaced at the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), with board director Adnan Rahman Dipon making startling claims about the organisation’s recent conduct. Speaking on a private television programme, Dipon asserted that the corruption during the interim board’s mere six-month tenure—spanning from May last year until the BCB elections in October—has surpassed that of former president Nazmul Hasan Papon’s 15-year administration.

Dipon did not hold back. “What did not happen in Papon’s 15-year tenure occurred in just the last six months of the interim committee,” he said. “I can guarantee that the scale of corruption over the past five to six months is almost equivalent to what happened over fifteen years.”

He further indicated that ongoing investigations may reveal names of several well-known figures associated with cricket in the country. “Many aspects of the board’s inner workings were beyond our imagination before we gained access. The documents, papers, and financial records we are now examining are truly astonishing,” Dipon added.

The board director also emphasised that the inquiry involves both internal and external oversight. “We are engaging external agencies such as the CID and the Legal Department to ensure everything is examined impartially,” he noted.

The backdrop of these revelations dates back to April, when the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) conducted a raid on the BCB offices, generating widespread discomfort in the cricketing community. While many commentators described the incident as embarrassing for Bangladeshi cricket, insiders argue that the real disgrace lies with those who have harmed the sport under the guise of development.

Under the leadership of newly appointed BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul, the organisation now faces its most significant challenge yet: unmasking the ‘insiders’ who have allegedly been siphoning off resources. The outcome of these investigations will determine whether the responsible parties are held accountable, a prospect closely watched by cricket enthusiasts nationwide.

The key question remains: can Bulbul lift the veil on internal corruption and restore public trust in the BCB?
