The Dhaka courts have scheduled the submission of arguments in a disturbing animal cruelty case in Mohammadpur for 3 February. The case concerns the brutal killing of a cat owned by a resident named Monsur, with local resident Akbar Hossain Shiblu named as the principal accused.
The Metropolitan Magistrate, Md. Siddiq Azad, fixed the date following a hearing on Sunday. According to Monsur’s legal representative, Zakir Hossain, the accused was present during the hearing, though he did not participate in the statement of defence. Taking this into account, the court adjourned the case to 3 February for the presentation of arguments.
Legal sources indicate that the charge alleges the accused deliberately and cruelly killed the cat. Witness testimony in the case concluded on 2 December 2025, with statements recorded from four witnesses.

According to the complaint, CCTV footage from Monsur’s residence captured the accused kicking the cat as if it were a football. The animal fell to the ground and was fatally trampled. This act of cruelty has drawn widespread condemnation from both animal welfare advocates and the general public.
The case was initiated by Nafisa Nowrin Chowdhury on behalf of the People for Animal Welfare Foundation Bangladesh. Mohammadpur police conducted a formal investigation and submitted their report to the court. The case is being adjudicated under both Bangladesh’s Animal Welfare Act and relevant provisions of the Penal Code.
The incident has heightened public awareness about the ethical responsibilities of pet ownership and the protection of animals. The upcoming hearing on 3 February is expected to be a pivotal moment in the legal process, determining the course of proceedings and potentially setting a precedent for similar cases in Bangladesh.
