Phultoli ground filled to capacity with crowds for Tarique Rahman

As part of the campaign for the 13th National Parliamentary Election, BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman is scheduled to address a major public rally on Sunday, 25 January, at 7:00 pm at the Digbazi Ground in Phultoli, Suwagazi, Comilla Sadar South Upazila.

In anticipation of his arrival, the Comilla District and Metropolitan BNP units have made extensive preparations for the gathering. By late afternoon, the venue was already brimming with supporters eager to witness the party leader in person. The public rally at Phultoli is widely regarded as one of the largest political gatherings in the region.

Attending the rally, local resident Atikur Rahman said, “I arrived at Suwagazi for the rally around 4:00 pm. Back in 2005, I had attended a grassroots conference for union leaders at Comilla Stadium, where Tarique Rahman was the chief guest. After 21 years, he is returning to Comilla for a public rally, and seeing him even briefly is a long-cherished wish.”

Meanwhile, Comilla Metropolitan Women’s BNP President Raihan Rahman Helen expressed her excitement: “I have witnessed and accompanied the legacies of Shaheed Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia. Today, it is our current leader, Tarique Rahman, who I will see in person. I am prepared to wait until late at night if necessary.”

According to Comilla South District BNP General Secretary Ashiqur Rahman Mahmud Wasim, Tarique Rahman’s campaign journey began with a midday rally at Chouddogram High School, having travelled from Chattogram via Feni. Following this, he will address the largest rally at Suwagazi’s Digbazi Ground, after which he will speak at Daudkandi before proceeding to Narayanganj and eventually returning to Dhaka.

Thousands of party activists have gathered from multiple upazilas and unions to witness the BNP Chairman. The lineup of notable political figures present on stage includes:

Constituency Notable Attendees
Comilla-6 Sadar Parliamentary candidate Monirul Haque Chowdhury
Comilla-7 Chandina Redwan Ahmed
Comilla-5 (Burichong-Brahmanpara) Haji Josim Uddin
Comilla South Former Education Minister A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon
Comilla-8 Barura Zakeria Taher Sumon, District BNP President

The rally has drawn widespread attention not only for its sheer size but also for the historical significance of Tarique Rahman’s presence in Comilla. Supporters of all ages—from students and professionals to elderly citizens—have gathered in a festive yet politically charged atmosphere, turning the Digbazi Ground into a sea of party flags and banners. Analysts suggest that such large-scale rallies play a crucial role in boosting morale among party members while signalling political strength ahead of the elections.

With the main rally in Phultoli serving as a key highlight of his campaign tour, Tarique Rahman’s speech is expected to energise the party’s base and draw national media attention to Comilla’s political landscape.
