In a harrowing incident that has sent shockwaves through the local community, a commercial easy-bike driver was discovered brutally murdered in the Ramu upazila of Cox’s Bazar. The victim, identified as 35-year-old Md. Babul, was found with his throat slit in what appears to be a cold-blooded premeditated attack by unidentified assailants.
The gruesome discovery was made late on Monday evening, 26 January, in the South Para area of the South Mithachhari union. Local residents stumbled upon Babul’s lifeless body lying in a secluded spot and immediately alerted the authorities.
Babul, the son of the late Abdu Salam, hailed from the Swapnotari Adarshagram village within the Rashidnagar union. A hardworking man and the primary breadwinner for his family, he leaves behind a grieving wife and three young children. His sudden and violent demise has left his family in a state of profound shock and financial uncertainty.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the local constabulary suggest that the primary motive behind the slaying was the theft of the easy-bike (a local electric three-wheeler). It is suspected that the perpetrators posed as passengers or intercepted Babul in a quiet stretch of road, where they overpowered him, committed the murder to eliminate any witness, and fled with the vehicle.
The victim’s younger brother recounted their final interaction with heartbreaking clarity. “I spoke with my elder brother just this evening before he headed out for work,” he shared, visibly distraught. “To receive news of his slaughter only a few hours later is a nightmare we cannot wake up from.”
Sheikh Md. Farid, the Inspector (Investigation) of Ramu Police Station, confirmed that a specialized team was dispatched to the crime scene immediately upon receiving the report. “We have initiated a primary investigation and are currently gathering forensic evidence from the site,” he stated. “Our initial assessment points towards a violent hijacking. We are exhausting all resources to identify and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.”
