Rickshaw Driver Abducts Toddler in Dhaka

A shocking incident unfolded in Dhaka’s Mugda area on Wednesday, 28 January, when a nearly three-year-old boy, Hisan Rahman, went missing after being taken by a rickshaw driver. The child’s mother, unable to locate him despite searching the surrounding area, filed a general diary (GD) at Mugda Police Station.

Hisan’s mother, Sumaiya Akter, told Kaler Kantho that the incident occurred around midday. She had taken Hisan to Mugda Hospital for a routine medical check-up. After the appointment, she began the journey home by rickshaw. While passing the road in front of Mugda Hospital, Hisan expressed a desire to have some water. Sumaiya attempted to take him out of the rickshaw to purchase water.

According to the mother, the rickshaw driver suggested she leave Hisan in the rickshaw while she quickly bought the water. Trusting his suggestion, she stepped into the nearby shop. However, upon returning with the water bottle, she found that both the rickshaw and her son had vanished. Immediate attempts to trace the driver in the surrounding area were unsuccessful, prompting her to report the matter to the authorities.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mugda Police Station, Muhammad Imdadul Islam Tayeb, confirmed that an investigation had commenced immediately following the GD filing. “Several teams are actively working on this case. We are reviewing nearby CCTV footage to identify the suspect and trace the child,” he stated.

Police have urged members of the public who might have seen the rickshaw or the child to come forward. “Community support is crucial in locating Hisan and apprehending the individual responsible,” the OC added.
