Three Youths Detained Over Gang Rape of Child

In a harrowing incident that has once again cast a shadow over the safety of minors in the Indian capital, three teenagers have been detained in New Delhi following the alleged gang rape of a six-year-old girl. The suspects—aged 13, 14, and 15—were apprehended by authorities after the victim’s family reported the assault, which took place in the Bhajanpura locality of North-East Delhi.

Details of the Incident

The assault reportedly occurred on 18 January in the residential neighbourhood where both the victim and the accused reside. According to police statements, the suspects allegedly lured the young child to the rooftop of a building, where the crime was perpetrated.

The victim’s mother recounted the harrowing moment her daughter returned home in a state of physical and emotional collapse. Initially, the child claimed she had suffered a fall; however, her mother noticed a lack of external abrasions consistent with a tumble and observed that the girl was bleeding heavily. Upon further questioning, the child revealed the true nature of the ordeal.

Legal Action and Police Response

Senior police official Ashish Mishra confirmed that all three suspects are employed at a local factory. Following the report, the police acted with immediacy, taking the teenagers into custody and producing them before a Juvenile Justice Board. The authorities have registered the case under the relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Procedural Step Status Action Taken
Medical Examination Completed Victim transported to hospital for forensic and clinical care.
Suspect Detention Completed Three youths (ages 13–15) held in a juvenile facility.
Evidence Collection Ongoing CCTV footage from the Bhajanpura area is being reviewed.
Victim Support Ongoing Professional counselling and psychological aid provided.

Maternal Bravery and Community Impact

In a notable turn of events, the mother of one of the accused reportedly handed her own son over to the police after witnessing the victim’s condition and realising the severity of the crime. The victim’s mother has demanded the “strictest possible punishment” for the perpetrators, highlighting the devastating impact on her daughter’s well-being.

The Delhi Police have assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway, with specialist teams examining the rooftop site and recording the victim’s statement under judicial supervision to ensure the case against the minors is robust.
