Mostafa Kamal, former coach of the Bangladesh national volleyball team, lifelong member of the Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA), and a distinguished sports organiser, passed away early Sunday morning, 1 February, at his residence in Dhaka. He was 88 years old.
Kamal had been suffering from kidney-related complications and various other health issues in recent years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters, leaving behind a legacy cherished by countless admirers in the country’s sports community.
Renowned for his multifaceted contributions to Bangladeshi sports, Kamal not only served as head coach of the national volleyball team but also played a pivotal role as Vice President and organiser of the Bangladesh Volleyball Federation. Beyond administrative and coaching roles, he was also a respected sports writer, whose analyses and articles enriched the nation’s understanding of volleyball and broader sporting developments.
The Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) expressed profound sorrow over his passing. In an official statement, the organisation prayed for the departed soul’s eternal peace and extended heartfelt condolences to his bereaved family.
Funeral arrangements have been scheduled to honour his life and contributions. Kamal’s first congregational prayer (Janazah) will take place following the Zuhr prayers at Shantinagar Eastern Plus Shopping Mall Mosque. A second Janazah will be offered at the National Stadium at 2:30 pm, after which his remains will be laid to rest at the Rayerbazar Buddhijibi Graveyard.
