Son Arrested for Fatally Stabbing Father Over Money

In a shocking incident in Tarail, Kishoreganj, a 25-year-old man allegedly murdered his father with a machete over a financial dispute. The accused, identified as Juel Mia, has been taken into police custody.

The gruesome attack occurred in the early hours of Sunday, 1 February, in Dori Jahangirpur (Madhyapara) village, located within the Tarail-Sachail Sadar Union of Tarail Upazila. The victim, 45-year-old Romjan Mia, was the son of the late Jabbar Mia, a long-standing resident of the same village.

According to police reports, both father and son were sleeping in the same room when, around 5:00 a.m., Juel Mia allegedly launched a sudden attack on his father. Using a machete, he inflicted severe injuries on Romjan Mia, leaving him critically wounded.

Neighbours, alarmed by the victim’s screams, reportedly broke down the door to intervene. Romjan Mia was rushed to Tarail Upazila Health Complex, where medical personnel pronounced him dead upon arrival.

Following the attack, local residents apprehended Juel Mia and handed him over to the police. Authorities recovered a machete believed to have been used in the murder, along with 23,000 Bangladeshi Taka in cash, from the scene.

Inspector (Investigation) Md. Shyamal Mia of Tarail Police Station stated that preliminary investigations suggest the killing was financially motivated, and that the accused may have been under the influence of drugs. The exact motive, however, remains under investigation. The victim’s body was sent to the morgue of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital in Kishoreganj for post-mortem examination. Legal proceedings are currently underway.
