Narsingdi, Bangladesh – Two individuals have been arrested in Kishoreganj in connection with the murder of poultry businessman Azimul Quader Bhuiya, 45, whose body was discovered in Belab, Narsingdi, last week. The operation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Branch of the police (DB), who also recovered the victim’s mobile phone and BDT 400,000 in cash from the sale of stolen poultry.
Azimul Quader’s brother, Anwar Quader Bhuiya, filed a murder case with Belab Police Station last Friday, naming two workers and several unidentified individuals as suspects. The businessman, a former general secretary of the Belab Upazila Chhatra League and ex-general secretary of Bajnab Union Chhatra League, was reported missing on Tuesday evening after leaving his poultry farm around 8 pm. His body was later found on Thursday night in a pond in Bir Baghber village of Bajnab Union.
Police identified the arrested suspects as Praman Talukdar, 21, from Fatepur village in Madan Upazila, Netrokona, and Abul Kalam, 45, from Kayesthapalli in Katiadi, Kishoreganj. Praman had been employed as a worker on Azimul Quader’s farm and fled after the murder, while Abul Kalam had purchased chickens stolen from the farm.
Investigations revealed that Azimul had recently hired two workers at his farm, just 15 days prior to his disappearance. Acting on confidential information and technological surveillance, the DB traced the suspects to Kishoreganj. On Saturday afternoon, a DB team led by Sub-Inspector Mobarak Hossain conducted a raid, capturing one worker and the poultry buyer. The recovered items included the victim’s mobile phone and proceeds from the sale of stolen chickens, amounting to BDT 400,000. One worker remains at large.
According to Acting Officer-in-Charge of the district DB, Abul Kayes Akand, preliminary investigations indicate that the murder was premeditated, carried out to steal proceeds from the poultry sales. The two arrested individuals were handed over to Belab Police Station and appeared before a court on Sunday afternoon.
