Alleged Sexual Assault Attempt on Four-Year-Old in Kamrangirchar

Dhaka, 1 February 2026 – A four-year-old girl in Kamrangirchar, Dhaka, was reportedly subjected to an attempted sexual assault by a teenage boy, local police and witnesses said. The incident has sparked outrage in the community, leading to the suspect being physically restrained by residents before being handed over to authorities.

According to police reports, the incident occurred on Saturday night. Following the event, the girl was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) for a medical examination to ensure her safety and document the assault attempt. Inspector Md. Faruk, officer-in-charge of the DMCH police post, confirmed her admission and stated that the hospital authorities were cooperating fully with the investigation.

A relative of the child recounted the sequence of events: “Around 9:00 pm yesterday, the teenage boy, who rents a room next door, lured the girl to his room under the pretext of applying lipstick. When her guardians began calling for her and checking the house, the door was eventually opened. The child then narrated the details of the attempted assault.”

Police and local sources added that the community quickly gathered at the scene after learning about the incident. “The residents were understandably enraged and administered some immediate punishment to the suspect before handing him over to the police,” one source said. Authorities confirmed that the boy has been taken into custody and is being interrogated under relevant sections of the law pertaining to attempted sexual assault on a minor.

The incident highlights ongoing concerns over child safety in urban areas of Dhaka, particularly in densely populated neighbourhoods like Kamrangirchar. Local residents and authorities are urging parents and guardians to be vigilant and for community policing measures to be strengthened to prevent such incidents in the future.
