Dhallywood actress Nusrat Faria recently opened up about her dramatic arrest and brief stint in jail during a candid podcast interview, offering rare insights into both her personal ordeal and the reactions of those around her.
Faria recounted that she had heard about the legal case against her prior to the incident, but, being abroad at the time, she had not considered it urgent. The situation took a dramatic turn when immigration authorities detained her at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while she was preparing to fly to Thailand for a shooting assignment.
“I hadn’t imagined that anything like this could happen until I reached immigration. When they took me to the detention room, it hit me—I was being arrested. In that instant, the world seemed to stop,” Faria said.
Her release after just 48 hours left a lasting impression. The actress noted that the most profound shock came not from the confinement itself, but from the reactions of those she considered close. Several of her long-time friends removed photos with her from social media, while others ceased communication entirely.
Faria reflected, “I learned new truths about people for whom I had given so much over the years. Yet, I also discovered individuals who displayed genuine empathy and support.” She also highlighted the compassion shown by the jail staff, describing how the officers treated her with kindness, which was both unexpected and deeply moving.
Physically and emotionally, the two-day detention was challenging. Meals were irregular, yet strangers went out of their way to ensure she was fed. “Tears were streaming down my face, and they were feeding me. That kind of empathy is something I will never forget,” Faria recalled.
The table below summarises the key events surrounding her arrest and the related case:
| Date | Event | Location | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| 18 May 2024 | Detention at Airport | Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport | Handed over to Vatara Police by immigration authorities while boarding Thailand flight |

| Case | Allegation under Anti-Discrimination Act | Vatara Police Station | Accused of attempted harm to students and public; Faria named as defendant |
For Faria, the episode became a profound test of friendship, loyalty, and human character. She reflected, “This experience has taught me to discern who truly cares and who does not.”
The incident, while brief, left the actress with enduring lessons on resilience, empathy, and the unpredictable nature of human relationships.
