Police in Naogaon recovered the body of Junaid Saki, 37, a revenue officer, in front of the 250-bed General Hospital on Wednesday, 4 February. The grisly discovery was made at approximately 5:30 a.m., with the victim reportedly left there by unidentified assailants who fled the scene in a yellow pickup van.
Junaid Saki, a native of Pirojpur district in Barisal, served as an Assistant Revenue Officer at the Dhaka Revenue Board. According to family members and hospital sources, he had travelled from Dhaka by train, intending to visit his wife in Mahadevpur, Naogaon. After alighting at Santahar Railway Junction, he did not reach his home, raising immediate concern.
Early reports indicate that the assailants abandoned his severely mutilated body directly outside the hospital’s emergency department. Hospital staff promptly attended to him and transferred him into the emergency ward, where doctors confirmed his death.
Dr. Rehnuma Munmun, on duty at the hospital, stated, “We initially identified the victim as having sustained injuries consistent with a road accident. The body was later handed over to police and family members.”
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident. Md. Rashed, Assistant Commissioner of Naogaon Customs, speculated, “It appears he may have died in a road accident while travelling from Santahar to Naogaon. His family has been informed and arrived at the hospital.”
Meanwhile, Nayamul Haque, Officer-in-Charge of Naogaon Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed that officers had inspected the scene. He added that the victim’s wife is filing a formal complaint, and the police will take appropriate action following a thorough investigation.
The case has shocked local residents, with the brutal nature of the attack raising concerns about public safety and the security of travelling officials.
