Top Terror Suspects Akhtar and Titu Arrested in Chittagong

Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) have apprehended two of the city’s most notorious terror suspects, Akhtar Hossain Prakash Akhtar and Nurul Amin Titu, both of whom are wanted in multiple criminal cases. Akhtar, wanted in 13 separate cases, and Titu, named in six cases, are listed at positions 42 and 41, respectively, on CMP’s official terrorist list.

Shahin Alam, Officer-in-Charge of Karnaphuli Police Station, confirmed the arrests on Wednesday. “Two of the city’s top terrorists have been apprehended. A significant cache of weapons has been recovered from them,” he said, adding that operations to capture other listed terrorists are ongoing. Police sources indicated that the crackdown has intensified ahead of the upcoming elections to ensure public safety.

According to authorities, Akhtar was arrested at a raid on the residence of Mariam Begum Prakash Badni in Baira North, carried out by Karnaphuli police on confidential intelligence. During the arrest, police recovered an array of illegal arms, including a locally-made LG firearm, an old foreign revolver, two Chinese axes, and a dhamas (traditional bladed weapon). Akhtar has a long criminal record involving murder, extortion, and other violent crimes across 13 cases. An arms case has been filed against him following the seizure.

In a separate operation in Jamalpara, Shiklabahar, CMP apprehended Titu, who is also among the top-ranked terror suspects. He has been handed over to the court under the Special Powers Act. Titu faces six charges, including murder, arms possession, and drug-related offences, registered with Karnaphuli Police Station.

The arrests mark a significant achievement in the CMP’s ongoing anti-terror operations, which have been stepped up in recent months to curb violence and maintain law and order across Chittagong. Authorities emphasised that the campaign against organised crime and terrorism will continue relentlessly, aiming to dismantle networks that threaten the city’s security.
