Armed Suspect Attacks Police in Saidpur, Vehicle Vandalised

In a shocking incident in Saidpur, Nilphamari, a wanted suspect violently assaulted police officers and managed to escape custody, while a microbus belonging to law enforcement was vandalised. Two members of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) sustained serious injuries during the attack.

The episode occurred on the afternoon of Tuesday, 3 February, outside Khaled Market on Shaheed Dr. Zikrul Haque Road in the town of Saidpur. The suspect, identified as Mohsin Ali Montu, is facing charges in a fraud case. Montu is a resident of Munshipara neighbourhood in Saidpur Municipality and operates a garments business in Khaled Market.

According to police and local sources, a PBI team had arrived from Narayanganj to apprehend Montu. Upon locating him at his business premises, the officers attempted to place him into a microbus for transfer. Montu allegedly began shouting that the officers were “fake DB police” and created a commotion. Alarmed local traders, believing the claim, rushed to his aid. In the ensuing chaos, the PBI officers were attacked, and the microbus carrying them was vandalised. Montu was forcibly freed by the crowd.

Saidpur police later arrived at the scene and rescued the PBI team along with their damaged vehicle. The injured officers were treated at the Saidpur 100-Bed Hospital, where their conditions were described as serious but stable.

Saidpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Rezaul Karim Reza provided further details:

“A PBI team from Fatulla Police Station in Narayanganj had come to Saidpur to arrest Montu in connection with an ongoing case. When he shouted that they were fake DB officers, local residents attacked our team and damaged the vehicle, allowing the suspect to escape.”

Police have confirmed that legal action is underway against those who assaulted the officers and vandalised the microbus. A manhunt has also been launched to apprehend the fugitive suspect.
