In a heart-rending incident in Mymensingh, the body of a nine-year-old boy was recovered from a fish farm in Andhariapara village, Phulpur Upazila, earlier today. The child, identified as Abdullah Hel Fuad, was found around 12:30 pm when local fishermen were casting their nets.
According to family members, Fuad was the son of Humayun Kabir, younger brother of Phulpur Union Parishad chairman Zainal Abedin. He had been living with his family in Mymensingh city while attending a local madrasa, but had returned to his village home two days ago. Reports indicate that Fuad went missing early this morning, prompting frantic searches by relatives across the village.
Tragically, the search ended at a fish farm located near the family residence. The fishermen reportedly pulled in their nets around 12:30 pm, discovering Fuad’s lifeless body entangled in the catch. Emergency services were called, and the child was taken to Phulpur Upazila Health Complex. At 1:10 pm, the attending physicians pronounced him dead.
The loss has left the family devastated. They had planned for Fuad to return to Mymensingh later in the afternoon, making the tragedy even more heart-wrenching for his parents.
Speaking to the press, the boy’s uncle, former vice-chairman of the Upazila Parishad, Md. Rafiqul Islam, said: “The family had arrived from Mymensingh two days ago and were planning to return today. We believe that while playing near the pond, he may have accidentally fallen into the water and drowned.”
Dr. Hasanul Hossain, Health and Family Planning Officer of Phulpur, confirmed that the child was brought to the hospital already deceased, adding that preliminary assessments suggest drowning as the cause of death.
Phulpur Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Saifullah Saif, stated that the death appeared accidental. “There are no complaints from the family,” he said, “so the body has been handed over to the family without a post-mortem for burial.”
