BNP Leader Airlifted to Dhaka After Brutal Attack

Pirojpur, Bangladesh — Former convener of the Pirojpur Sadar Upazila BNP, Mohiuddin Mallick Nasir (60), has been airlifted to Dhaka for advanced medical treatment after sustaining critical injuries in a violent attack. Nasir, who had been receiving care at a hospital in Khulna, was transported to the capital on Monday at approximately 3:00 pm via helicopter for further management at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University Hospital.

According to police and local sources, the attack occurred late on Sunday night around 11:00 pm near the Parderhat Bus Stand in Indurkani Upazila. Nasir and Riaz Uddin Mallick Nipu (45), general secretary of Shankarpasha Union BNP, were ambushed by a group of assailants.

Family members reported that the victims were returning home on a motorcycle when 8 to 10 motorcyclists blocked their path and attacked them with sharp weapons before fleeing the scene. Nasir suffered severe injuries to both legs, his arms, and his neck, while Nipu sustained a head injury. Local residents promptly rescued the victims and admitted them to Pirojpur District Hospital for initial treatment. As Nasir’s condition deteriorated, he was subsequently moved to Khulna Hospital, and finally airlifted to Dhaka for critical care.

Nasir’s nephew, Md. Maruf Hossain, told reporters, “Due to a rapid decline in his condition at Khulna Hospital, he was immediately transferred to Dhaka by helicopter. Doctors at BSMMU are providing intensive care, and his family is hopeful for his recovery.”

Pirojpur Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle), Nasrin Jahan, confirmed that officers had visited the hospital to check on the victims. “Upon receiving a formal complaint, legal action will be taken. An investigation is underway to determine the motive and identify the attackers,” she said.
