Chartered Accountant Arrested for Valentine’s Day Wife Murder

In a case that has shocked the residents of Bahadurgarh, Haryana, a meticulously planned evening of romance ended in a gruesome tragedy. A local Chartered Accountant, Anshul Dhawan, has been arrested for the alleged murder of his wife, Mahek, an employee at HDFC Bank. The incident, which took place on Valentine’s Day, saw the couple celebrate the occasion with dinner before the evening took a fatal turn.

The Fabrication of a Robbery

On Sunday night at approximately 11:00 pm, Anshul placed a frantic call to the Jhajjar Police. He claimed that a group of unidentified intruders had broken into their residence with the intent to rob them. He further alleged that during the struggle, the assailants had slit his wife’s throat before fleeing the scene.

Initially, the authorities treated the case as a violent home invasion. However, the narrative began to crumble within hours. Investigators noted significant inconsistencies in Anshul’s testimony; despite being present during the supposed struggle, he remained entirely unharmed and was unable to provide even a basic description of the intruders or their getaway vehicle.

Investigation Timeline and Findings

The Jhajjar Police managed to solve the mystery within a remarkable 18-hour window. Their suspicions were raised by the clinical nature of the crime scene, which did not align with a typical chaotic robbery.

Event Time Action Taken Observation
Sunday Evening Couple celebrates Valentine’s Day Public appearance suggests harmony.
11:00 pm Emergency call placed by Anshul Claims throat-slitting by “unknown dacoits.”
Monday Morning Forensic sweep of the residence No signs of forced entry or stolen valuables.
Monday Afternoon Intensive interrogation of Anshul Suspect breaks down and confesses to the crime.

A Motive Rooted in Suspicion

During the interrogation, the professional facade of the Chartered Accountant gave way. Anshul reportedly confessed that he had harboured deep-seated suspicions regarding his wife’s fidelity for a considerable period. These unfounded doubts led to frequent and volatile domestic disputes.

The police revealed that the Valentine’s Day celebrations were a calculated ruse intended to lower Mahek’s guard and provide Anshul with a “happy couple” alibi for the earlier part of the evening. After returning from their dinner, Anshul allegedly used a sharp weapon to commit the murder before staging the house to mimic a burglary.

Police Response

A senior officer from the Jhajjar Police Department stated that while the suspect went to great lengths to “script” a robbery, his inability to account for the lack of forced entry proved his undoing. Anshul Dhawan has been charged under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for murder and providing false information to public servants. The murder weapon has since been recovered, and the body of the deceased has been sent for a post-mortem examination to confirm the exact sequence of events.
