Football Dispute Leads to Teen’s Fatal Stabbing

In a tragic escalation of a local football dispute, a 16-year-old student and political activist was fatally stabbed in front of a mosque in Nandigram, Bogura, late on Thursday night. The victim, Milon Rahman, was attacked immediately after performing the Tarabi prayer at around 11:00 pm in the village of Burail.

Milon Rahman, a tenth-grade student at Burail High School and son of Dilbur Rahman, was an active member of the student wing of a local political party. Family members described him as diligent and community-oriented. According to local sources and police reports, the conflict that led to his death originated nearly a month ago over a football game. A disagreement between Milon’s neighbour, Nabir Sheikh, and a youth named Shamim from Birpali escalated into a physical altercation at that time.

On Thursday evening, tensions resurfaced when Shamim, travelling to his in-laws’ home, encountered Nabir Sheikh once again. Angered by the earlier disputes, Shamim, accompanied by several family members, returned to Burail under the cover of darkness in a motorcycle and CNG-powered auto-rickshaw, seeking Nabir. Unable to locate him, they reportedly targeted Milon Rahman instead.

Local witnesses described a coordinated attack by a group of approximately 10–15 assailants. Milon was repeatedly stabbed with sharp weapons in a sudden and brutal assault before the perpetrators fled. He was rushed to Shahid Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in Bogura, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Nandigram Police Station Officer-in-Charge, Mizanur Rahman, confirmed that preliminary investigations indicate the fatal attack stemmed from the earlier football-related dispute. “Our teams are actively pursuing all leads to apprehend those responsible,” he said. Milon’s body has been sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination.

Bogura-4 constituency Member of Parliament, Mosharraf Hossain, expressed deep sorrow: “Milon was my neighbour in Burail. It is profoundly shocking that a trivial football disagreement led to his murder. Those responsible will be brought to justice swiftly.”
