Two People Killed in Gaibandha During Mob Beating Over Theft Suspicion

In a shocking incident in Gaibandha’s Sadullapur upazila, two men were killed after being accused of robbery. The event occurred early on Friday morning in the Mozahidpur area of Khoddokomarpur Union.

The deceased have been identified as Lebu Mia, also known as Bhondol, aged 24, son of the late Lal Mia Sheikh from Satrapara village in Betkapa Union of Palashbari upazila, and Moinul Islam, 50, son of the late Danoz Mia from Mastapur village. Their identities were confirmed by Sarwar Alam Khan, Officer-in-Charge of Palashbari Police Station.

According to police reports and local eyewitnesses, the incident unfolded around 4:30 a.m. A woman, accompanied by a relative, had arrived from Dhaka on a long-distance bus at Thutiapukur area of Palashbari upazila. They were travelling along the Sadullapur–Thutiapukur road towards the Madarhat ferry point (broken bridge) in Idilpur Union when they were allegedly confronted by three armed robbers.

The victims claimed that the assailants, brandishing sharp weapons, forcibly took money and gold jewellery from them. Their screams attracted nearby residents, who immediately intervened and chased the robbers.

The suspects attempted to flee on a motorcycle, but lost control near Mozahidpur, crashing onto the road. Locals reportedly assaulted the two men at the scene, resulting in their deaths. A third suspect managed to escape.

The local police have launched an investigation and are preparing to file a case. Abdul Alim, Officer-in-Charge of Sadullapur Police Station, said that police reached the scene promptly after receiving reports. The bodies of the two deceased and the motorcycle used in the escape were recovered. Both bodies were sent to Gaibandha General Hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the incident.
