Bagharpara Political Office Breached, Portraits of Leaders Displayed

A startling incident unfolded in the Bagharpara Upazila on Friday, 20 February, when unidentified individuals forcibly entered the local office of the Awami League. The intrusion occurred during the observance of the Tarawih prayers, a period of heightened religious activity in the area, raising alarm among residents and local political observers.

According to eyewitness reports and video footage circulating widely on social media, a group of people wearing helmets and masks broke the office lock and entered the premises. Once inside, they mounted portraits of the Father of the Nation, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, and former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, while shouting slogans of “Joy Bangla” and demanding the return of the ousted Prime Minister to the country.

The viral video has sparked widespread concern among local residents, many of whom described the act as “planned and provocative.” The office is located just a few hundred metres from the Bagharpara Police Station, prompting questions about security and the audacity of the perpetrators to act in close proximity to law enforcement.

Local political and civic organisations have voiced strong condemnation. In a statement, the National Citizens’ Party (NCP) demanded strict action against the perpetrators, urging the authorities to identify and arrest those involved within 24 hours.

The Officer-in-Charge of Bagharpara Police Station, Mahmudul Hasan, confirmed that police had visited the scene following reports of the incident. He stated, “No one was present at the office at the time of the intrusion. We are actively investigating the identities of those involved and will ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice.”
