Tragic Dispute Over Five-Taka Bill

In a shocking incident in Ramganj, Lakshmipur, a minor disagreement over a mere five taka electricity bill between two brothers ended in the tragic death of the younger sibling, Alamgir Hossain. The incident occurred on Saturday (21 February) at around 8:30 pm in Uttar Bodorpur, under the jurisdiction of Karpara Union.

According to Alamgir’s wife, Sabina Yasmin, the brothers shared a single electricity meter and routinely split the monthly bill. “This month, Alamgir paid five taka less than his share, which sparked a heated argument with his elder brother, Khorshed Alam,” she said. The confrontation escalated later in the evening when Alamgir visited a local tea shop. There, Khorshed, accompanied by several others, reportedly assaulted Alamgir, leaving him seriously injured on the spot.

Local eyewitnesses intervened to separate the brothers during the scuffle, but by that time, Khorshed had already left the scene. Alamgir remained at the location, critically wounded. He was subsequently taken to the Upazila Health Complex, where medical staff pronounced him dead on arrival.

The police have confirmed that the altercation stemmed from the electricity bill dispute. Ramganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Firoz Uddin Chowdhury stated, “Preliminary information indicates that the two brothers engaged in a physical altercation over their shared electricity bill, which ultimately led to Alamgir’s death. Investigation is ongoing, and more details will be disclosed upon completion.”
