HSBC Bangladesh Crowned Leader in Global Trade Finance

The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) Bangladesh has once again asserted its dominance in the financial sector, securing the title of the world’s leading international trade finance institution for the eighth time. This prestigious accolade was confirmed by the bank in a press release issued on Sunday, 22 February 2026, marking a significant milestone in its journey within the Bangladeshi market.

A Global and Regional Powerhouse

HSBC’s success in Bangladesh is mirrored by its formidable performance on the international stage. The bank has successfully maintained its position as the global leader in trade finance for the ninth consecutive year and has been ranked as the premier institution in the Asia-Pacific region for the seventh time. These rankings are the result of the highly regarded Euromoney Trade Finance Survey, a comprehensive study that evaluates the capabilities and service quality of banks worldwide.

The survey reflects the perspectives of 12,700 trade finance specialists and corporate treasurers across 96 countries. In this latest iteration, HSBC achieved the top spot in 16 out of the 18 markets surveyed, reinforcing its reputation for excellence in product innovation, customer service, and digital integration.

Leadership Perspectives

Reflecting on the achievement, Md. Mahbub ur Rahman, Chief Executive Officer of HSBC Bangladesh, expressed immense pride in the institution’s resilience. “Securing the top spot for the eighth time in Bangladesh is an extraordinary honour. This recognition is particularly poignant in today’s volatile economic climate, where the complexities of international trade demand more sophisticated solutions than ever before. This is not merely an award; it is a testament to the trust our clients place in us and the dedication of our staff,” he stated.

Ahmad Rabiul Hassan, Head of Global Trade Solutions at HSBC Bangladesh, echoed these sentiments, thanking clients for their unwavering partnership. He emphasised the bank’s commitment to investing in innovative banking solutions that enable Bangladeshi enterprises to seamlessly connect with the global marketplace.

Strategic Shift in Operations

Since commencing operations in Bangladesh in December 1996, HSBC has played a pivotal role in the nation’s economic development. While the bank historically offered a full suite of retail and corporate services, it has recently undergone a strategic restructuring. HSBC Bangladesh has now exited the retail banking segment to concentrate its resources and expertise exclusively on Corporate and Institutional Banking, ensuring a more tailored approach for the country’s largest business entities.
