Successful Military Operation Against JSS Militants in Bandarban

In a decisive action today at 5:00 PM, the Bangladesh Army conducted a successful operation against the armed faction of the Jatiya Samajtantrik Sangram (JSS – Main) in Murang Bazar, located in Roangchhari Upazila, Bandarban. The operation, carried out on the basis of precise intelligence, targeted the group during their attempt to collect illegal extortion money.

According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was initiated following credible reports about the presence of the militant faction in the area. As the army patrol approached, the militants attempted to flee and opened fire on the advancing troops. The soldiers returned fire, prompting the militants to initially seek shelter in a nearby school building before ultimately escaping the location.

During a thorough search of the area, the army patrol recovered an armed militant identified as Hlamongnu Marma, who was found wounded along with weapons and ammunition. He was immediately transferred to Bandarban Sadar Hospital for urgent medical attention, with police assistance facilitating the process.

The operation led to the seizure of a significant cache of weapons and ammunition, as detailed below:

Item Quantity
Submachine Gun (SMG) 1
SMG Ammunition 143 rounds
Pistol Ammunition 14 rounds
Blank Ammunition 5 rounds
Weapon Magazines 2
Additional equipment Various

The Bangladesh Army emphasised that it remains committed to safeguarding the lives and property of all communities in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. The statement reaffirmed that operations against armed insurgent groups will continue until peace and security are fully restored in the region.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by security forces to curb extortion and armed militancy, which have periodically threatened the safety of local residents in Bandarban. Authorities have reiterated that collaboration with local communities and timely intelligence gathering are key to the success of such missions, ensuring both minimal civilian risk and the effective neutralisation of armed threats.

The army’s swift and coordinated response has been widely recognised as a demonstration of operational efficiency and dedication to maintaining law and order in this sensitive region of Bangladesh.
