The authorities of Dhaka’s metro rail network have issued new directives regulating video recording and content creation within station premises. The announcement was made on Wednesday, 25 February, by Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) through an official advisory warning commuters and content creators of strict compliance requirements.
According to the notification signed by A K M Khairul Alam, Director of Administration at DMTCL, the following areas are now subject to restricted recording: metro rail stations, platforms, concourse halls, entry and exit points, and the interiors of trains. Any form of video recording, photography, or content creation in these areas will be prohibited without prior authorisation from the authorities.
The DMTCL notice highlights specific prohibitions, including:
Recording or live streaming short videos for YouTube, Facebook, or other social media platforms.
Conducting photography or video shooting for commercial or personal purposes.
The advisory emphasises that violators will be subject to administrative and legal actions in accordance with existing laws and regulations.
Additionally, DMTCL clarified that any commercial photography or shooting within metro premises requires prior approval under the Commercial Space Rental Policy 2023, ensuring compliance with government regulations. The primary aim of these measures is to safeguard passengers’ comfort, security, and uninterrupted movement throughout the stations.
| Subject | Directive | Objective / Comment |
|---|---|---|
| Video & Photography | Prohibited in stations, platforms, concourse, entry/exit points, and trains without permission | Ensure passenger safety and comfort |
| Social Media | YouTube, Facebook, short videos, and live streaming prohibited without permission | Control live or promotional content |
| Commercial Shooting | Must follow approval process under ‘Commercial Space Rental Policy 2023’ | Regulate activities and revenue according to government rules |
| Administrative Action | Non-compliance will result in legal and administrative measures | Maintain orderly and secure rail services |
Industry experts view the new policy as a critical step in maintaining station order, passenger safety, and operational efficiency. It also provides a clear framework for regulating commercial shoots and preventing unauthorised content production.
In conclusion, the new DMTCL directives make it mandatory for all video recording and photography at metro stations to follow approved channels. This approach seeks to balance passenger convenience with station management needs, ensuring a secure and organised environment for daily commuters.
