Youth Beaten to Death Over Domestic Dispute

A trivial dispute over the placement of a clothesline escalated into a fatal confrontation on Friday morning, resulting in the death of a young man in Faridpur. The incident, which has sent shockwaves through the local community, occurred in the Molla Bari Road area of Goalchamot, according to Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Asad of the Kotwali Police Station.

The victim has been identified as Jewel Ahmed, son of the late Monir Uddin. His younger brother, Sohel Ahmed, an expatriate worker who had recently returned home, sustained severe injuries during the assault and remains in a critical condition at a local medical facility.

Escalation of a Neighbourly Feud

According to police reports and accounts from grieving family members, a long-standing tension had existed between Jewel’s family and their neighbour, Md. Sarfaraz, a local scrap metal trader. The friction reached a breaking point on Friday morning when members of Sarfaraz’s family began erecting a rope to dry laundry directly across the entrance to Jewel’s residence.

Witnesses alleged that the installation was accompanied by deliberate noise and disorderly conduct. When Jewel and his brother attempted to protest the obstruction of their walkway, the verbal altercation quickly turned violent. Armed with wooden batons and iron rods, Sarfaraz’s family reportedly launched a coordinated physical assault on the two brothers.

Emergency Response and Legal Action

Following the brutal beating, local residents rushed to the scene and transported the bloodied siblings to Faridpur Medical College Hospital. Tragically, attending physicians pronounced Jewel Ahmed dead upon arrival. Sohel Ahmed is currently undergoing intensive treatment for trauma and internal injuries.

The local constabulary acted swiftly following the report of the homicide. SI Asad confirmed that the primary suspect, Md. Sarfaraz, and his wife have been taken into police custody for questioning.

“We arrived at the scene immediately upon receiving the information,” SI Asad stated. “The suspects are currently being detained, and formal legal proceedings are being initiated to ensure justice for the bereaved family.”

The body of the deceased has been sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death, while additional police personnel have been deployed to Goalchamot to maintain order and prevent further retaliatory violence between the two factions.
