A tragic road accident in Kaliaganj, Gazipur has claimed the life of one passenger and left four others injured, two of them in critical condition. The victims’ identities have not yet been confirmed.
The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, 4 February, on the Kaliaganj–Tongi–Ghorashal Regional Highway, near the area known as Baligaon. According to police reports, a CNG-operated auto-rickshaw carrying five passengers was travelling towards Ghorashal when it was struck by a truck coming from the opposite direction. The force of the collision resulted in the immediate death of one passenger, while the remaining four sustained injuries of varying severity.
Local residents rushed to the scene to assist the victims, who were promptly transported to Kaliaganj Upazila Health Complex. After initial treatment, doctors recommended advanced care for the two most seriously injured patients. One of the critically injured was referred to Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital for specialised treatment.
Dr Zayed Kawser, a physician at the emergency department, confirmed that two of the four injured remain in a critical condition. The hospital staff are closely monitoring their health and providing intensive care.
Meanwhile, Kaliaganj Police Station has initiated legal procedures in connection with the accident. Officer-in-Charge Zakir Hossain told Kaler Kantho that the case is under investigation, and measures are being taken to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
The authorities have urged drivers to exercise extreme caution on the highway, particularly during peak hours, to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
