Father Accused of Daughter’s Sexual Assault

A harrowing case has emerged in Shahrashti Upazila, Chandpur, where a 37-year-old man is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting his 15-year-old daughter, a student in the tenth grade of a local madrasa. Medical examinations have confirmed that the teenager is approximately four months pregnant.

The case has sparked outrage in the local community, with residents reportedly locking the accused’s home in protest.

Incident Details

According to locals, the alleged perpetrator, a resident of Tamta Uttar Union, had been abusing his daughter for an extended period. Concerned about her sudden physical changes, the girl’s mother took her to a nearby hospital. Medical professionals confirmed the pregnancy, approximately four months along.

The revelation ignited a confrontation between the girl’s parents. In a desperate attempt to terminate the pregnancy, her mother reportedly took her to a relative’s home in a neighbouring upazila. However, news of the situation quickly spread throughout the community, heightening tensions.

Community leaders, including local Union Parishad member Mosharraf Hossain, ward BNP secretary Khorshed Alam, and ward Jubo Dal president Sakhawat Hossain, intervened. They urged the family to pursue legal action. Despite these pressures, the family allegedly attempted to conceal the incident, prompting local residents to take matters into their own hands and seal the accused’s house on 3 March.

Police Response

Confirming the incident, Officer-in-Charge of Shahrashti Model Police Station, Mir Mahbubur Rahman, stated that the police were dispatched to the residence after being informed by locals. Upon arrival, the house was found locked, and neither the victim nor her family could be located at a relative’s home. Police continue their efforts to apprehend the suspect. As of now, no formal complaint has been filed.
