A controversy has emerged from a recent television drama shoot in Manikganj, involving actresses Samia Othoi and Tanjin Tisha. During the shoot, Samia Othoi publicly accused Tanjin Tisha of slapping her, a claim she made in a Facebook Live broadcast yesterday evening. According to Samia, “While filming a scene, I lightly struck Tisha as required by the script. However, she retaliated, striking me repeatedly in front of the crew.”
Tanjin Tisha, in her defence, insisted that her actions were part of portraying her character. She stated, “I was performing the role of a special child. Certain scenes demanded realistic reactions, which may involve physical contact. Once the drama is released, audiences will understand the context of each action.”
The incident quickly sparked widespread discussion across social media platforms. In response, the Bangladesh Actor Guild issued a formal statement this morning, emphasising proper professional conduct and procedural resolution.
The Guild’s statement read:
“Any disputes or conflicts between members should be reported to the organisation rather than being publicised on social media or other platforms, as such behaviour violates the Actor Guild’s code of conduct. We firmly believe that conflicts must be resolved through mutual discussion, institutional processes, and organisational structures. One-sided exposure on social media can damage the reputation of the professional community and create unnecessary confusion and negativity. If a member breaches the code of conduct, appropriate organisational measures may be taken. We strongly advocate that issues be resolved through proper institutional channels rather than creating a ‘trial by public opinion’.”
Director Rafat Majumdar told our representative that the incident stemmed from a scripted scene. “The scene required a slap. Both actors were instructed to perform it lightly. Any perceived severity was unintentional, and the situation appears to be a simple misunderstanding.”
The drama’s cast also includes veteran actors Shahiduzzaman Selim, Momena Chowdhury, and Mir Rabbi, among others.
The table below summarises the key details of the controversy:
