US Strike Sinks Iranian Warship Near Sri Lanka

The Indian Ocean has become the theatre for a dramatic and deadly military escalation following the sinking of an Iranian naval vessel off the coast of Sri Lanka. In a briefing at the Pentagon on Wednesday, US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth confirmed that American forces were responsible for the destruction of the vessel, which he identified as part of a broader, coordinated military campaign alongside Israel.

Fatalities and Rescue Operations

The strike has resulted in a significant loss of life. Sri Lanka’s Deputy Foreign Minister informed local television networks that at least 80 personnel are confirmed dead following the attack. The vessel involved has been identified as the IRIS Dena, an Iranian Navy frigate.

According to reports from the Sri Lankan Navy, the ship’s manifest indicated that approximately 180 crew members were on board at the time of the engagement.
