The Lebanese armed group Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for a series of drone attacks on Israeli military installations, describing the operation as a direct response to what it termed Israel’s recent acts of aggression. According to Hezbollah, the strikes specifically targeted the Haifa naval base and the military complex at Tel Hashomer.
In a statement, Hezbollah detailed that a squadron of drones was deployed to Haifa naval base at approximately 2:00 p.m. local time. Simultaneously, the Tel Hashomer facility, known as the headquarters of Israel’s General Staff, was also targeted. Multiple drones were reportedly employed to strike both sites, highlighting the group’s growing aerial capabilities.
Hezbollah further indicated that the attacks were launched from southern Lebanese cities, including suburbs south of Beirut. The group framed the operation as both defensive and retaliatory, asserting it was a justified response to Israel’s “criminal aggression.” Analysts note that these strikes signal a shift in Hezbollah’s operational methods, emphasising unmanned aerial systems as tools for both military and psychological impact.
Meanwhile, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) reported that during ongoing clashes in southern Lebanon, two Israeli soldiers sustained injuries following anti-tank fire. The injured personnel were promptly evacuated to nearby hospitals. Israel has been conducting ground operations in southern Lebanon since Monday, with confrontations continuing in multiple sectors.
The following table summarises the key information regarding the recent attacks:
| Target Location | Type of Attack | Time | Description | Responsible Party | Context / Motivation |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Haifa Naval Base | Drone Strike | 2:00 p.m. | Naval installation, military centre | Hezbollah | Retaliatory response |
| Tel Hashomer Military Base | Drone Strike | Same time | General Staff headquarters | Hezbollah | Retaliatory response |
| Southern Lebanese Cities | Surveillance & Strikes | Around 2:00 p.m. | Various populated areas | Hezbollah | Response to Israeli aggression |
Security analysts warn that Hezbollah’s use of drones is likely to escalate both military and political tensions in the region, potentially deepening future conflicts across the Middle East. Containing the impact of drone strikes on civilian populations, alongside ensuring the safety of injured personnel, remains a significant challenge for Israel.
As the situation continues to unfold, both sides’ military operations could escalate at any moment, with the risk of broader confrontations increasing amid the volatile regional dynamics.
