School Head Teacher Assaulted by School Guard in Adabar

In a shocking incident in Dhaka, the head teacher of Begum Nurjahan Memorial Girls School, Mr. Md. Alauddin, was violently assaulted by the school’s security guard, Dhulu Shikdar, leaving him injured. The attack occurred on Wednesday, 4 March, in the Adabar Ring Road area.

Eyewitnesses reported that after the altercation, Mr. Alauddin was rushed to Sohrawardi Hospital by local residents for immediate medical attention. Police have since arrested Dhulu Shikdar in connection with the assault, which has sparked outrage among the school’s teaching staff.

Background of the Dispute

According to the head teacher, the altercation stemmed from a long-standing dispute over a three-kaa plot of school land. Dhulu Shikdar had been using the land without permission for several years. The school authorities had issued multiple notices requesting him to vacate the premises, beginning in 2013.

In 2020, following a decision by the then-managing committee, a written notice was served again, instructing him to surrender the land. Mr. Alauddin explained that as part of the school’s development plan, the land is required to construct a hostel for female students. Without vacating the land, the school cannot apply for government grants.

During a teachers’ meeting on 3 February, it was formally decided to issue a one-month notice to Dhulu Shikdar to vacate the land. Copies of the notice were sent to the local police station, the Upazila education office, and the district education office.

Incident Details

Mr. Alauddin recounted that on the afternoon of the incident, after concluding a teachers’ meeting, he requested Dhulu Shikdar once again to vacate the land. As he was leaving the school, the guard and his wife were waiting outside the school gate. Once the other teachers had left, they attacked him with blows and kicks, leaving him injured.

Adabar Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Mr. Ziaur Rahman, confirmed that a case has been filed naming two suspects, one of whom has been arrested in connection with the attack.
