Mymensingh police have intensified their investigation into the brutal killing of garment worker Dipu Chandra Das, aged 27, with two additional arrests reported from Valuka Upazila. Late on Wednesday evening, officers apprehended 19-year-old Siam Ahmed and 28-year-old Abdullah during separate operations in different locations.
Siam Ahmed is the son of Saiful Islam from Batajor Dakuria village, while Abdullah is the son of Md. Idris Ali from Koraitala village in Hobirbari Union. According to police sources, the arrests followed a meticulous investigation involving the analysis of CCTV footage and digital evidence to identify all individuals involved in the crime. Siam was detained in the Batajor Dakuria area, whereas Abdullah was taken into custody in Jamirdia.
Abdullah Al Mamun, Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration) in Mymensingh, stated, “These two suspects were present at the scene when Dipu’s body was hung from a tree along the main road at Masterbari Square. They actively encouraged the crowd, pulling the rope and chanting slogans, inciting bystanders to commit violence and participate in the abuse of the deceased.”
To date, a total of 25 individuals have been arrested in connection with the murder case, of whom 12 have provided confessional statements in court.
The tragic events occurred on the night of 18 December 2025 in Dubaliyapara, Hobirbari Union. Dipu Das was initially detained following allegations of religious defamation. He was subsequently beaten to death and his body set ablaze while suspended from a tree along the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. Dipu’s brother, Apu Chandra Das, filed the case naming approximately 140–150 unidentified individuals as suspects.
