Farmer Party Leader Expelled After Caught on CCTV

In the early hours of Tuesday, at approximately 1:30 am, two individuals attempted a burglary at a private residence in Laxmipur Sadar Upazila’s Kushakhali Union, Ward 4. CCTV footage from the property captured the daring intrusion, revealing that one of the intruders was armed with a knife and a torch.

The video, lasting 1 minute and 8 seconds, shows one individual, later identified as Sahab Uddin, directing the operation and overseeing the theft of valuable items from the home. Sahab Uddin is a joint convenor of the Farmers’ Party in Charshahi Union and a member of the Chandraganj Police Station’s Farmers’ Party unit.

Following the viral spread of the footage on social media, Sahab Uddin was expelled from the party on Wednesday night. The district Farmers’ Party office issued an official notice, signed by office secretary Aminul Islam, citing clear violations of party directives, engagement in anti-organisation activities, disciplinary misconduct, and involvement in criminal acts. The decision was ratified by District Farmers’ Party President Mahabub Alam and General Secretary Mostafizur Rahman.

The victim, Sumon Hossain, reported the incident to Chandraganj Police Station, where a case has been registered naming Sahab Uddin and an accomplice as suspects. As of Thursday noon, neither suspect had been apprehended. Police confirm that the CCTV footage has been preserved as evidence, and efforts are ongoing to capture the accused.

District Farmers’ Party President Mahabub Alam told Prothom Alo, “The theft video came to our attention, and it is deeply damaging to the party’s reputation. Given the seriousness of the incident, we have taken the decision to expel Sahab Uddin immediately.”

Chandraganj Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Morshed Alam, added, “A case has been filed against the two accused, and our investigation is ongoing. The video will serve as crucial evidence in court proceedings.”

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting concerns over political figures’ accountability and the need for vigilance in maintaining public trust.
