Russian President Vladimir Putin has publicly articulated his stance on the ongoing hostilities involving Iran, the United States, and Israel, calling for an immediate cessation of violence and a return to diplomatic channels.

On Saturday, 7 March, President Putin held a telephone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pagehskian. During the call, he expressed condolences over the death of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, while President Pagehskian provided detailed updates on the current military situation in the region.

Shortly after their discussion, the Kremlin issued a statement emphasising Russia’s urgent call for all forms of violence in Iran to cease. The statement highlighted that “Russia reiterates its position that issues in Iran and the broader Middle East should be resolved through politics and diplomacy rather than force.” It also underlined that President Putin maintains regular communications with Iran and Gulf countries and expressed full solidarity with Iran in protecting its sovereignty, independence, and national dignity.
