Brutal Murder in Barguna: Housewife Killed

In a shocking and violent incident in Barguna, a housewife named Alamtaz, aged 44, was brutally murdered after being struck repeatedly with a blunt machete, leaving her face mangled beyond recognition. The crime occurred on Friday evening, 6 March, in Agapadma Dil Mahmud, Ward No. 5 of Naltuna Union, under Barguna Sadar Upazila. Alamtaz was the wife of Abul Hawlader and a mother of three children.

Police recovered the machete used in the attack at the crime scene. Despite immediate investigation, no arrests have yet been made. The victim’s body has been sent to the morgue of Barguna General Hospital for post-mortem examination.

According to police and local sources, Alamtaz was home alone at the time of the attack. Taking advantage of this, the assailants entered her house and inflicted multiple blows with the machete. The assault caused severe trauma to her face and a critical head injury. Blood stains were visible throughout the scene. Interestingly, her gold jewellery and cash were found untouched, suggesting that robbery was not the primary motive.

Local resident Naeem Hossain Tanvir, who arrived at the scene shortly after Iftar, described the grim sight: “I saw her body lying in the house. To my knowledge, the family had no known disputes. The sons run businesses in Barguna town, and the family was financially stable. However, I cannot confirm if there were conflicts with distant acquaintances.”

Another neighbour, Champa, stated that they initially heard rumours of a fire. Upon reaching the house, they discovered Alamtaz’s body on the veranda, her face bearing severe injuries.

Naltuna Union Parishad chairman Shafiquzzaman Mahfuz condemned the killing as a brutal act and urged authorities to conduct a swift investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Additional Police Details: Md. Salahuddin, Additional Superintendent of Police, Barguna Sadar Circle, said that law enforcement responded promptly to the scene. After preparing a survey report, the body was sent for post-mortem. A blunt iron weapon, identified as a machete, was recovered. Police continue their investigation to identify and apprehend those responsible.
