BLACKPINK BREAKS RECORD WITH DEADLINE ALBUM

South Korean powerhouse BLACKPINK has set social media abuzz with the release of their latest EP, ‘Deadline’, smashing sales records within its first week. The girl group has reportedly achieved unprecedented commercial success, consolidating their status as one of K-pop’s most influential acts.

According to their agency, YG Entertainment, the EP sold over 1.774 million copies in its first week alone, with more than 1.4 million copies sold on the very first day. The agency noted that global demand has exceeded expectations, prompting the production of additional copies to meet fan enthusiasm worldwide.

Sales tracking company Hanteo Chart confirmed that ‘Deadline’ holds the record for the highest first-week sales among K-pop girl group releases. It surpasses BLACKPINK’s previous EP, ‘Born Pink’, by approximately 230,000 copies, illustrating the group’s growing international appeal.

First-Week Sales Comparison

EP Title First-Week Sales (Copies) First-Day Sales (Copies) Difference vs. Previous EP
Deadline 1,774,000+ 1,400,000+ +230,000
Born Pink 1,544,000+ 1,200,000+

‘Deadline’ has also dominated streaming platforms, reaching number one on iTunes’ Top Albums chart in 38 regions worldwide. The music video for the EP’s lead single, ‘Go’, topped YouTube’s trending charts and became the most viewed video within its first 24 hours of release.

Critical response has been overwhelmingly positive. Rolling Stone remarked that, “BLACKPINK has returned at their absolute peak,” while Billboard praised the track ‘Go’ as “the EP’s standout song, capturing the group’s true identity.”

The EP takes its name from BLACKPINK’s 2025 ‘Deadline’ World Tour, announced the previous July. By January of this year, the group had performed 33 shows across 16 cities, including sold-out performances at major global venues such as London’s Wembley Stadium. The tour has reinforced their reputation for commanding large audiences and delivering high-energy performances across the globe.

With ‘Deadline’, BLACKPINK has not only set new sales benchmarks but has also reaffirmed their cultural impact and enduring influence on the global music scene. Their first-week success underscores the group’s ability to combine commercial appeal with artistic innovation, solidifying their legacy in K-pop history.
