Dr Mosharraf Vows to Purge Meghna of Criminality

In a resolute address to his constituents, the newly elected Member of Parliament for the Cumilla-1 (Daudkandi-Meghna) constituency, Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, has declared a comprehensive “war on crime” within the Meghna sub-district. Speaking during an exchange of views with party activists on Sunday, 8th March, the veteran politician articulated a vision of a reformed and secure Meghna, free from the historical plagues of narcotics, gambling, and illegal sand extraction.

A Policy of Zero Tolerance

Addressing a large gathering at the Meghna Upazila Parishad grounds at midday, Dr Mosharraf issued a stern warning to local syndicates and administrative officials alike. He confirmed that he has already provided “stringent directives” to the Upazila administration to dismantle criminal networks with immediate effect.

“I am stating this with absolute clarity: the government’s policy stance on crime is one of Zero Tolerance,” Dr Mosharraf asserted. “There shall be no reprieve for offenders, regardless of their political or social standing. Punitive legal measures will be enforced against anyone found undermining the rule of law.”

Developmental Stagnation and the Path Forward

Dr Mosharraf, a senior figure within the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), reflected on the geographical and developmental history of the riverine Upazila. He argued that the region’s infrastructure had been neglected for nearly two decades, claiming that significant progress had only occurred during previous BNP tenures.

He highlighted the outcome of the 13th General Election, noting that the BNP secured a two-thirds majority—a mandate he believes reflects the public’s desire for safety and prosperity. He praised the early leadership of the newly appointed Prime Minister, Tarique Rahman, noting that the administration’s first 21 days have already garnered widespread acclaim for decisive governance.

Moving Beyond the “Politics of Blame”

The MP expressed strong optimism that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would successfully steer the nation away from the “politics of blame” that has historically characterised the landscape. Instead, he advocated for a focus on “thoughtful, modern planning” to build a stable and advanced Bangladesh over the next five years.

Closing his address, Dr Mosharraf extended his heartfelt gratitude and “floral greetings” to the activists and general public of Meghna for their overwhelming support in the recent polls. He called upon local administrators and party members to work in unison to transform the Upazila into a model of modern governance.
