Bashir Ahmed Awarded Posthumous Independence Honour

The Government of Bangladesh has decided to confer the Posthumous Independence Award 2026 on legendary singer Bashir Ahmed, recognising his extraordinary contributions to the nation’s music and film industry.

The announcement was confirmed in a press release issued by the Cabinet Division on Thursday, 5 March 2026. According to the release, a total of 15 distinguished individuals and 5 organisations have been nominated for this year’s prestigious state honour. Bashir Ahmed’s name appears eighth on the list of individual awardees.

Born in 1939 in Kolkata, Bashir Ahmed emerged as one of the brightest stars in the subcontinent’s music scene.
