Shakib Promises National Comeback After Legal Hurdles

Speculation about the return of Shakib Al Hasan to the Bangladesh national cricket team had intensified around the recent Pakistan series. Fans and pundits alike hoped the all-rounder would make a swift comeback. However, that return did not materialise, primarily due to pending legal matters that prevented him from rejoining the squad. As the Bangladesh–Pakistan ODI series reaches its final stages, questions remain about when and in which series Shakib will officially resume playing for his country.

In a recent podcast appearance, the former national captain provided clarity on his return plans. Shakib emphasised that his comeback hinges entirely on resolving outstanding legal complications. He stated, “I hope to return soon. At present, everything is tied up in legal complexities. Efforts are being made to expedite these matters. I feel the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been sincere so far. If that sincerity is strengthened further, perhaps these issues could be resolved even faster.”

Shakib is determined to make an immediate return once the legal barriers are cleared. “These legal matters are completely new to me. I have no prior experience dealing with such situations, so it’s hard to estimate how long the process will take. That’s why we are waiting. Once the issues are resolved, I will come back as quickly as possible. Inshā’Allāh, if all goes well, I will return the very next day,” he added.

The podcast also touched on the challenges posed by Pakistan’s enigmatic spin bowler, Usman Tariq. Shakib, who has faced Usman before in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), described adapting to such bowlers as a test of skill. “I’ve played against him before, in the CPL as well. Adjusting to his action is certainly challenging, but with time and practice, it’s manageable. For first-time encounters, it can be tough. Occasionally, you face these exceptional bowlers—like Ajanta Mendis, or even legends like Muralitharan. These mysterious bowlers appear from time to time.”
