EBL Partners Proyash for Inclusive Education

Eastern Bank PLC (EBL) has forged a strategic alliance with Proyash Institute of Special Education, reaffirming its commitment to advancing inclusive education and social responsibility in Bangladesh. The partnership is designed to strengthen the institute’s infrastructure and enhance its capacity to deliver specialised services to children with diverse developmental needs.

The collaboration was formally announced at a ceremony held at EBL’s head office in Dhaka. At the event, Ziaul Karim, Head of Communications and External Affairs and Head of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Desk at EBL, handed over a cheque to Colonel Md. Altaf Ali, Executive Director and Principal of Proyash Institute. The financial assistance is expected to support the expansion of academic facilities and the improvement of therapeutic and training services offered by the institution.

Proyash Institute of Special Education, a non-profit charitable organisation administered by the Bangladesh Army under the guidance of the Chief of Army Staff, has established itself as a leading centre for the holistic development of children with special needs. Its programmes integrate Inclusive and Equitable Quality Education with skill-based training, therapeutic care, and structured extra-curricular activities, enabling students to build confidence, independence, and practical life skills.

Addressing the gathering, Ziaul Karim highlighted the transformative role played by Proyash in supporting children and their families. He noted that the institute’s comprehensive approach—combining therapy, vocational training, and education—helps individuals with special needs become active participants in society. He further remarked that such initiatives provide crucial support to families managing long-term challenges, and expressed EBL’s pride in contributing to a cause that promotes dignity and inclusion.

Colonel Md. Altaf Ali welcomed the partnership, describing it as a significant boost to the institute’s ongoing efforts. He stated that the support from EBL would enable Proyash to further develop essential skills among its students, improve their employability prospects, and foster greater social acceptance. He emphasised that empowering individuals with special needs is vital to building a compassionate and inclusive society.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from both organisations. Representing Proyash were Afroza Sultana, Vice Principal; Kawsari Warda, Head of Human Resources; and Sultan Ahmed, Head Teacher. EBL was represented by Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, Company Secretary; Major Md. Abdus Salam (Retd), Head of Administration; and Md. Maskur Reza, Head of Business Information Systems, along with other officials.

This partnership reflects a broader trend of corporate engagement in social development initiatives, particularly in the field of education. By investing in institutions such as Proyash, EBL is contributing to a more inclusive future—one in which individuals of all abilities are supported to realise their potential and participate fully in society.
